Boeing [NYSE:BA] was awarded a contract by Raytheon Company for engineering and manufacturing to continue on the development of portions of the STANDARD Missile-3 Kinetic Warhead. STANDARD Missile-3 is a component of the Missile Defense Agency's Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense.

The contract is part of an ongoing program to develop and deploy the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System for sea-based ballistic missile defense against short- to medium-range ballistic missiles. The value of the award is $85.9 million for performance over the next three years. Boeing has been teamed with Raytheon, the prime contractor for the program, since 1996, and is under subcontract to build elements of the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) Kinetic Warhead. Boeing is responsible for the guidance unit, ejector, Kinetic Warhead environmental testing and inert integration.

In addition to its work on the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense/SM-3 program, Boeing holds key roles in each element of the Ballistic Missile Defense System architecture. Boeing also leads the System Engineering and Integration effort on the Missile Defense National Team.
