Boeing Recognized as Large Business Prime Contractor of the Year by Marshall Space Flight Center

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Nov. 06, 2008 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] has been named Large Business Prime Contractor of the Year by NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) for its efforts to work with small businesses on the Ares I launch vehicle program.

NASA recognized Boeing for its work as a founding member of the MSFC Prime Contractor Supplier Council and for its participation in conferences and activities devoted to supporting small businesses. Several small businesses have joined Boeing's Ares I team to provide engineering and test support, software development and other services.

"By using the expertise of our small-business teammates, we can provide NASA with affordable, high-quality products and services," said Jim Chilton, Boeing Exploration Launch Systems vice president. "Small businesses allow us to be more innovative and flexible in meeting our customer's needs."

Boeing is NASA's production partner for the Ares I upper stage and instrument unit avionics, key elements of the Ares I launch system that will return astronauts to the moon by 2020.
