Boeing and AFRL Demonstrate First-Ever Supersonic Munitions Release

A rocket sled employing active flow control successfully releases a MK-82 Joint Direct Attack Munition Standard Test Vehicle from a weapons bay at a speed of about Mach 2 (twice the speed of sound) during a test conducted by Boeing Phantom Works and the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory at the High-Speed Test Track at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M. It was the first time that a munition had been released safely from a weapons bay at high supersonic speeds.
