The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] announced today it has completed a land grant of approximately 14 acres of vacant property in Gresham, Ore., to the City of Gresham to build a new constructed wetland complex for storm-water treatment.
The wetland complex will provide water quality treatment for approximately 660 acres of storm-water runoff that is currently conveyed through two major municipal storm drainage systems. The facility, scheduled to open in October 2008, will provide significant long-term water quality benefits for the Columbia Slough. When completed, the facility will look much like a natural wetland, providing many of the same types of environmental benefits including, improved water quality, wildlife habitat, especially for bird migration, breeding and nesting, flood control and plant biodiversity.
"Without Boeing's land donation and their commitment to the project's vision and goals, the City of Gresham would not have the financial resources to make this project possible," said Charles Becker, City of Gresham Mayor. "This is a wonderful example of a meaningful public-private partnership to benefit the environment," he added.

"The Boeing Company is committed to protecting the environment and investing in the communities where we conduct our business to help them remain healthy."
The Boeing Portland site currently occupies about 125 acres in Gresham. As part of Boeing's overall effort to vacate and sell unneeded property, the company has decided to donate the vacant parcel of 14 acres and sell an additional 21 acres of vacant land which is adjacent to its Portland site.
The Boeing Portland site is a part of the Boeing Fabrication Division and produces some of the most critical machined parts and structures for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The site operates one of the largest complex machining facilities in the world and serves as a manufacturing area of excellence for complex machined components, gear systems and end-item pilot controls.
