Boeing F-15K Fighter Engine Delivered to the Republic of Korea Air Force

Boeing [NYSE: BA] took a significant step toward building the first F-15K Strike Eagle fighter aircraft Dec. 10, with delivery of the first Samsung Techwin Company-built F-110 engine to the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF). The engine was delivered at a ceremony in Changwon, South Korea.

"Samsung Techwin, General Electric and the ROKAF have done an incredible job producing the heart of the F-15K -- its engine," said Steve Winkler, Boeing F-15K program manager. "Their hard work will help deliver the most capable, dual-role operational fighter in existence today to protect the people of Korea."

The ROKAF selected the F-15K Strike Eagle as the winner in their Next Generation Fighter Program in 2002. Valued at $4.2 billion, Boeing will deliver 40 aircraft with weapons beginning in 2005 and ending in August 2008. Eighty engines and eight spare engines will be built for the 40 Korean Strike Eagles.

The F-15K is being built at Boeing's St. Louis facilities, with the new fighter's first flight scheduled for March 2005. The initial two aircraft will be delivered to the ROKAF in the fall of 2005.

An advanced derivative of the U.S. Air Force F-15E, the F-15K is the world's most capable long-range, multi-role fighter. It can perform air-to-ground and air-to-air missions during the day or at night, in virtually any weather. It can carry more than 23,000 pounds of payload, reach Mach 2.5, and incorporates the latest military technologies. These include the APG-63(V)1 radar, a third-generation forward looking infrared system, a helmet-mounted cueing system, and weapons-control systems supporting advanced weapons such as the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM), Standoff Land Attack Missile-Expanded Response (SLAM-ER), Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) and AIM-9X Sidewinder missile.
