The Boeing [NYSE:BA] development and modification center in Wichita, Kan. attained the highest possible rating established by the nationally recognized Software Engineering Institute (SEI).
The SEI appraisal, known as the Capability Maturity Model Integration(CMMI) is an industry-recognized framework for process integration and improvement. The Company's Aerospace Support Wichita Development and Modification Center achieved Level 5 of the CMMI assessment model in all four areas: systems engineering; software engineering; integrated product & process development, and supplier selection management process disciplines against the industry/government developed standards.
"This achievement clearly demonstrates the IDS Wichita site manages our business through a disciplined process-oriented environment," said Bruce Glaser, WDMC director of engineering. "This award, along with the Malcolm Baldrige award and the Kansas Award for Excellence, shows our continued commitment to our customers by providing high quality processes and products".
The assessment was conducted by The Process Company LLC, Springfield, Va. CMMI is used throughout the world in military and government organizations, as well as commercial enterprises.
The WDMC employs more than 3,300 people. The site is an industry leader in the developmental design, modification, maintenance and fleet support of military aircraft, defense systems and international government aircraft. Wichita 's business focus is to provide products and services in the post-manufacturing phase of an aircraft's life cycle.
