The Boeing Company released the following statement today announcing that it has won a contract with USEC, Inc. for work to manufacture gas centrifuge machine components at the Boeing Oak Ridge facility. The contract is part of USEC's American Centrifuge Program to enrich uranium.
"We are pleased that the Boeing Oak Ridge facility has been awarded this contract by USEC," said John Frazier, Sr., site leader for the Boeing Oak Ridge facility. "We are proud to partner with USEC by providing the expertise of Boeing employees and the unique centrifuge production capabilities at our Oak Ridge site."
"Also, we thank members of the Tennessee Congressional delegation and the state and local officials that helped bring this work to Oak Ridge," added Frazier.
The Boeing Oak Ridge facility previously supported centrifuge manufacturing from 1981 to 1985 under an earlier U.S. Department of Energy uranium enrichment program.
