Boeing [NYSE:BA] is adding Parker Hannifin to its 7E7 Dreamliner team, selecting the Cleveland-based company as the hydraulic subsystem supplier for the all-new passenger airplane.

"We require our partners to offer new technologies and ideas to help us achieve our goals," said Mike Bair, Boeing vice president and general manager of the 7E7 program. "Parker Hannifin is the latest example of a company bringing innovation and enthusiasm to our effort."

The 7E7's hydraulic system will operate at 5,000 pounds per square inch (psi) compared to the typical commercial aircraft pressure of 3,000 psi. That greater pressure permits the use of smaller equipment, reducing the subsystem's weight and contributing to the 7E7's improved efficiency.

Launched in April 2004, the 7E7 Dreamliner is a family of three airplanes, each using the same engine type. The 7E7-8, with a range of up to 8,500 nautical miles (15,700 kilometers), will carry 217 passengers in three classes. The 7E7-3, a model of the 7E7-8 for shorter flights, will carry 289 passengers up to 3,500 nautical miles (6,500 kilometers) in two classes. The 7E7-9, a longer version of the 7E7-8, will carry 257 passengers up to 8,300 nautical miles (15,400 kilometers) in three classes.

The Dreamliner will offer passengers a better flight experience including an improved cabin environment with more room and conveniences.
