Family of Advanced Beyond Line-of-Sight Terminals Program Passes

The Boeing [NYSE: BA] Family of Advanced Beyond Line-of-Sight Terminals (FAB-T) team completed a highly successful Preliminary Design Review (PDR) in Anaheim recently, which included both systems-level and software reviews. The FAB-T program is a six-year, $273 million contract to design and develop the first increment of wideband satellite communications terminals for a transformational Department of Defense initiative.

The review was conducted by prime contractor Boeing and its partners, as well as members from the U.S. Air Force Electronic Systems Center (ESC) located at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. Boeing is partnered with a best-of-industry team, comprised of the nation's leading satellite systems, communications terminals, and high performance data link providers. The team includes Harris Corporation's Government Communications Systems; L-3 Communications' Communications Systems West; Northrop Grumman's Mission Systems; ViaSat, Inc.'s Communications Systems Group; and Rockwell Collins' Government Systems Division. As prime contractor and lead system integrator for the FAB-T program, Boeing is responsible for systems engineering and integration; system architecture; software development, test and evaluation; integrated logistics support; and communications engineering.

FAB-T will provide forces with a multi-mission capable family of terminals that use a common design and open system architecture to communicate with different satellites and enable information exchange between ground, air, and space platforms. Networked information and communications' systems provide a competitive edge to decision-makers and military personnel.
