With only a few days to go, the joint promotion by Boeing [NYSE: BA] and AOL Time Warner Inc. [NYSE: AOL] to name the 7E7 airplane has collected more than 65 million Web hits and about 280,000 votes from people in more than 140 countries.
The winning airplane name will be announced at the Paris Air Show in mid-June.
Of the four names the leading candidate - by a nose - is "Global Cruiser," followed closely by "Dreamliner." The promotion ends Tuesday, June 3. Until then, people around the world can vote daily and join the World Design Team for future updates on the progress of the new airplane. AOL members and non-members in China, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States also can participate in a sweepstakes to win prizes. To vote or get more information on the sweepstakes, visit newairplane.com.
The grand prize is a two-hour "flight" in a Boeing 737 full-motion flight simulator, including a flight instructor. Boeing also is conducting a separate sweepstakes for its employees as well as offering them the opportunity to vote and join the World Design Team.
The voting and sweepstakes were part of several online and offline initiatives by Boeing and AOL Time Warner Inc. to engage consumers in the development of the new plane .
