AeroMexico, the largest airline in Mexico and the second largest in Latin America, confirmed its selection of 15 Boeing Next-Generation 737-700s with winglets for its DC-9 replacement.
AeroMexico will operate the 737s with winglets -- 8-foot-high wingtip extensions -- that reduce fuel consumption up to 3.5 percent, increase range up to 450 nautical miles from hot, high-altitude airports like Mexico City, and reduce engine maintenance costs. The winglets also help airlines meet stringent low-noise regulations by reducing takeoff noise.
Deliveries begin in October 2003 and continue through 2004.
