Virgin Blue has ordered 10 737-800s and up to 40 additional 737s from The Boeing Company. The new airplanes are part of the airlines' planned fleet expansion for the next 10 years.
Virgin Blue ordered the airplanes with performance-enhancing winglets manufactured by Hawker de Havilland, an aerospace manufacturing supplier based in Melbourne, Australia. The airline also has announced its interest in flying to regional destinations, such as New Zealand and several South Pacific islands.
