Spectrolab, Inc, the world's largest manufacturer of space solar cells, today announced that it has received an ISO 9001-2000 certification. This distinction means that an independent evaluation has certified Spectrolab's quality control and manufacturing processes. Spectrolab is a business of The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA).

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an international committee that has compiled sets of rules or regulations for the way companies operate and for the records they keep on their manufacturing processes. By following a set of rules, a company helps ensure that it consistently produces quality products, and that products are produced the same way, every time. This assures customers that they can depend on getting the same-quality product now and in the future. Spectrolab chose TUV Rheinland of North America as registrar.

"Obtaining an ISO certification assures Spectrolab's already competitive edge in the industry," said David Lillington, president of Spectrolab "We were already compliant with the Mil-Q-9858 Quality Standard, so this ISO certification is further proof of our commitment to provide consistent, quality products for our customers, and that we have the ability to meet our customers' needs.

"Spectrolab is already a major international supplier of space solar cells and solar panels," Lillington added. "In addition, we are the market leader for solar simulators and high-intensity searchlights, such as our Nightsun that is used by law enforcement and military agencies. We are also expanding into other optoelectronics markets, providing products such as, sensors, heterojunction bipolar transistors, lasers and other photonic products. All of these industries have a high set of quality standards, so we sought ISO certification as proof that we can meet those quality standards."
