At a ceremony held in Sao Paulo on Feb. 5, 2002, GOL Airlines of Brazil celebrated the delivery of its first Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 commercial jetliner. Shown here, the advanced airplane takes off from Boeing Field in Seattle. GOL already operates 10 Boeing 737-700s, and recently completed its first year of operation with 8.5 percent of the Brazilian airline market. With its low operating costs and proven reliability, the Boeing 737 has become the airplane of choice for low-fare, short-haul regional airlines such as GOL Airlines and Ryanair, which recently placed an order for 100 Boeing 737-800s, plus 50 options. GOL is flying its brand new 737-800 under an operating lease through GATX Capital Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of GATX Corporation, a finance and leasing company combining asset knowledge and services, structuring expertise, creative partnering and risk capital.
