TAROM Romanian Air Transport took delivery of its first Next-Generation 737-700 today at Boeing Field. The Romanian airline has ordered four 737-700s and four 737-800s to serve its expanding markets in Europe and the Middle East.
"We are very pleased to be taking delivery of our first 737-700," said Nicolae Demetriade, president and chief executive officer of TAROM. "The Next-Generation 737s have proven themselves to be highly reliable and cost-efficient and will be a very welcome addition to our fleet."
TAROM has been a Boeing customer since 1974, when it took delivery of its first 707. TAROM currently operates a fleet of 10 737s.
"I'm glad that TAROM has selected the 737 to update its fleet," said Toby Bright, vice president of Sales - Europe/Russia, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "We think it's a win-win situation -- for their passengers and the airline."
The Next-Generation 737 offers the highest dispatch reliability and lowest operating costs in its class and features the most advanced design technology in the single-aisle market, such as an all-new wing and updated liquid-crystal displays in the flightdeck. The Next-Generation 737 also offers an all-new, spacious interior fashioned after the immensely popular interior of the Boeing 777.
Boeing has taken orders for more than 1,700 Next-Generation 737s, making it the fastest-selling new jetliner of all time. To date, the company has delivered more than 700 of the new 737s.
