El Al Israel Airlines' first 777-200ER (extended-range) airplane takes flight for the first time Jan. 11 in Everett, Wash. The twinjet is the first of three to be delivered to El Al in the first quarter of 2001. The airline plans to fly them on routes to New York, London and Hong Kong. The 777 is ideally suited for such long-range, non-stop flights, and has an impressive schedule reliability rate of more than 99 percent - the best in its class. El Al is scheduled to take delivery of the airplane Jan. 29.
