A Boeing 737-800, retrofitted with new blended winglets, is shown on its first flight Sept. 26. The airplane belongs to German carrier Hapag-Lloyd Flug, which has ordered 26 blended winglet kits and will be the first commercial airline to fly a 737-800 with winglets when the certification-test airplane goes into service early next year. In addition to a host of other performance improvements, the winglets will extend the airplane's range by more than 150 miles.
