The Boeing Company in Philadelphia has achieved ISO 9001 certification, marking the facility and its rotorcraft and aerospace programs fully compliant with world-class production and quality standards.

ISO 9001, established by the International Standards Organization, is a quality management system that sets a global standard for manufacturing and quality assurance processes and ensures a company's products and services are among the best in the world.

Certification followed a comprehensive third-party assessment by National Quality Assurance, USA, a third party registrar. The third-party audit and earlier internal reviews and evaluations covered every phase of design, fabrication, assembly and quality inspection as well as inventory control, purchasing, contracts, finance, servicing and many other support processes.

"Achieving ISO 9001 certification is excellent for an operation as large as ours," said Ira Sherman, director of Quality at Boeing. "Our implementation team and employees' level of knowledge about ISO 9001 principles were an important factor in the audit team's unanimous favorable assessment."

As a follow-up, the audit team will return to Boeing in three months and then every six months to ensure the facility is maintaining its high quality standards.

The Boeing Company develops and produces military rotorcraft in services worldwide at its production facilities in Mesa, Ariz., and Philadelphia. Among its products are the AH-64D Apache Longbow, CH-47 Chinook and the RAH-66 Comanche helicopters, and the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft.
