A new, lightweight composite horizontal stabilizer has successfully completed flight tests on a C-17 aircraft. The new composite tail (the light-colored portion of the tail in this photo, taken during flight test at Edwards Air Force Base) will go into service on C-17s delivered June 1999 and thereafter. It offers reduced weight and complexity and lower unit cost.
