Boeing Wins Modification Contract For U.S. Navy Aircraft

The Boeing Company has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy to perform work on the Modification/Installation Program for the P-3 Orion and S-3 Viking Maritime Patrol aircraft.

Under the 5-year indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract with a $50 million threshold, Boeing Aerospace Support will build and install modification kits designed by the Navy depot. This work, which includes electronics/avionics and structural modifications, will take place at the Boeing Shreveport (La.) Aircraft Modification Center and by Boeing field teams at Navy locations.

"This contract will call on the specialized capabilities and expertise inherent in our Shreveport Aircraft Modification Center," said Jim Restelli, vice president and general manager of Aerospace Support. "The Shreveport Center is a member of our family of four military maintenance and modification centers, which is founded on the basis of providing affordable, fast-turnaround and preeminent quality aircraft support."

Boeing Aerospace Support also operates maintenance and modification facilities in Wichita, Kan.; at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio and at Williams Gateway Airport in Mesa, Ariz., each with unique missions and capabilities.

Boeing has extensive experience in build- and install-to-print aircraft modifications at the Shreveport Aircraft Modification Center, including structural modifications and installation of avionics, communication/navigation, electronic warfare and special mission systems on C-130 aircraft. The company currently is under contract to install tanker and rescue mission equipment on Air Force C-130s and structural modifications as part of a sensor system upgrade on U.S. Coast Guard HC-130 search and rescue aircraft.

There are approximately 220 P-3-type and 110 S-3-type aircraft in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve inventories.
