Europe's Joint Airworthiness Authorities (JAA) has recommended type validation of the second model in the Next-Generation 737 airplane family, the 737-800. The recommendation, awarded April 9, formally recognizes that the 737-800 has passed the rigorous design and testing requirements mandated by the JAA and is ready to enter passenger service with European airlines. Launch customer Hapag-Lloyd of Germany is scheduled to take delivery of the first 737-800 later this month.
