Just out of the paint hangar in gleaming white, blue and yellow colors, the first MD-11F (freighter) for Lufthansa Cargo AG is on the flight ramp at the Boeing Douglas Products Division factory in Long Beach, Calif., preparing for a flight-test program leading to delivery this summer. Lufthansa Cargo has ordered eight of the trijets, which carry up to 202,100 pounds (91,760 kilograms) of payload in main deck cargo space of more than 14,500 cubic feet (412 cubic meters).
