Boeing Employees In Mesa Surpass $1 Million In Donations For Local Charities Through Giving Program

Employees at The Boeing Company in Mesa, Ariz., have raised more than $1 million for local charities as part of the company's annual employees' community fund campaign.

The funds, which are collected weekly through payroll deductions, will be used to support more than 125 charities and community organizations in Mesa and the Valley of the Sun, including the Mesa United Way.

Employees raised more than $500,000 on their own while the McDonnell Douglas Corporation Foundation made a one-time dollar-for-dollar match for $500,000. The Boeing Company is the largest corporate contributor to Mesa charities.

During this year's week-long campaign in August, nearly 500 employees signed up for the first time, said Bill McLean, the Boeing employee who headed the campaign. In all, some 2,350 Boeing employees in Mesa contribute weekly to the employees' community fund, which will begin distributing the $1 million in donations in January.

The Boeing Company produces helicopters and ordnance systems at its Mesa facility. Products include the AH-64D Apache Longbow multi-mission combat helicopter, a family of light single- and twin-engine helicopters, and a variety of ordnance systems for air, sea and ground applications.
