Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet a Finalist in Brazil Fighter Aircraft Competition

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 01, 2008 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] today announced that the Brazilian Air Force has selected the F/A-18E/F Block II Super Hornet as one of three aircraft to be evaluated in the Request for Proposals phase of Brazil's F-X2 fighter competition.

The F/A-18E/F Block II Super Hornet was among six fighter aircraft originally under consideration. Brazil is expected to make a final contract award in late 2009. The stated initial requirement is for 36 aircraft, with the potential for up to 120 aircraft.

"Boeing is honored that Brazil has selected the Super Hornet as a finalist for the next phase of the F-X2 competition," said Bob Gower, F/A-18 and EA-18 Programs vice president, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems. "This selection reinforces the Super Hornet's ability to meet the operational requirements of the Brazilian Air Force and the forward-leaning stance of the U.S. government regarding transparency and technology release. Boeing looks forward to establishing long-term partnerships with the Brazilian Air Force, Brazilian industry and the government of Brazil."

The Block II Super Hornet, with its Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, presents a comprehensive multi-role capability solution at an affordable price. Boeing has delivered 367 Super Hornets to the U.S. Navy to date, all on or ahead of schedule.
