Boeing Honors Technologists for Shaping the Future of Aerospace
20 novel developments selected for annual Boeing Special Invention Awards

CHICAGO, Oct. 5, 2011 – Boeing [NYSE: BA] has honored 65 of its technologists with its annual Special Invention Award, highlighting the best of innovations that have demonstrated true value to the company and the future of aerospace.

This year, 20 inventions, most of which have been granted or are awaiting U.S. patents, are included in the list. Some of these include: the Constant Resolution Visual System (CRVS), which delivers an advanced display technology allowing military pilots to train like they fly; a system used to stabilize the astronaut treadmill (COLBERT) aboard the International Space Station; and a method of rapid fabrication for quality composite material parts.

“Out of the thousands of creative ideas generated, and of the hundreds of inventions documented, these innovators were selected using a rigorous, uniform set of criteria focused on both the technological value of an invention and the business value to the company,” said Boeing Chief Technology Officer John Tracy, senior vice president of Engineering, Operations & Technology. “For this, we salute them, their intellectual achievements and their tireless effort toward progress and our future.”

Each of the inventors will be recognized at company ceremonies throughout the month of October in Southern California, St. Louis and Seattle.
