Boeing today named Dr. John J. Tracy to the position of senior vice president of Engineering, Operations & Technology. He replaces Jim Jamieson, who was recently named chief operating officer for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Tracy will report to Boeing Chairman, President and CEO Jim McNerney and serve on Boeing's executive council.

Prior to this assignment, Tracy was vice president of Engineering and Mission Assurance for the company's Integrated Defense Systems business unit. He also served on a companywide team, led by Jamieson, that focused on continuously improving the performance and discipline of Boeing's engineering and operations functions.

"John's background, leadership and commitment to excellence in technology, engineering and operations make him an excellent choice for this position," said McNerney. "By leading our enterprise efforts to enhance discipline in the engineering and operations functions and the effectiveness of our technology investment strategy, he and his team will be instrumental in helping us achieve our overall growth and productivity objectives."

In his new role, Tracy will move to Chicago and take over three key responsibilities: functional management of Boeing's engineering, operations, supplier management, program management and quality assurance functions; executive oversight of the Information Technology, Phantom Works and Intellectual Property Management organizations; and sponsorship of Boeing's Development Process Excellence initiative, which is aimed at enhancing the yield of Boeing's R&D investments and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of development programs.

Boeing today also named Nanette M. Bouchard to replace Tracy as vice president of Engineering and Mission Assurance for Integrated Defense Systems. Bouchard, formerly vice president and leader of the Development Process Excellence initiative under Jamieson, will report to Jim Albaugh, president and CEO of IDS. She will also serve on Tracy's Engineering, Operations & Technology leadership team. A replacement for Bouchard on the Development Process Excellence initiative will be named soon.

"Nan's experience in program management, as an engineer working complex systems engineering programs, coupled with her role in driving companywide technology and development process improvements have prepared her well for this critical and challenging position," said Albaugh. "Nan will build on the strong foundation of functional discipline, systems engineering and integration, and cross-functional excellence that John created over the past two years."

Bouchard will have functional responsibility for the 32,000-person engineering team at IDS, including engineering processes and tools.

Tracy, 52, is a 25-year veteran of Boeing who has held increasingly responsible management and executive positions in the areas of space, aircraft and R&D. He has a doctorate in engineering from the University of California at Irvine, and master's and bachelor's of science degrees in Physics from California State University at Los Angeles and Dominguez Hills, respectively. He has been elected a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Royal Aeronautical Society, and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Bouchard, 47, has held a series of increasingly responsible positions, including management positions on the International Space Station and several proprietary programs. She joined the company in 1981 at the Energy Technology Engineering Center located at the Santa Susanna test site in California. She received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Rice University.

The changes are effective immediately.
