The raked wing tips are approximately 17 feet in length and provide aerodynamic efficiency for long-haul routes.
"KAL-ASD is a proven performer," said Mike Bair, vice president and general manager of the 787 program. "We selected them to be part of our team because of their capabilities and competencies."
"We are very pleased to be involved in the Boeing 787-8 raked wing tip production, not only as a supplier but also as a partner in the aircraft design and development stage," said Mr. Suh Sang Mook, president of Korean Airlines -- Aerospace Division. He added, "Korean Air's Aerospace Division has greatly expanded its capabilities over the years and we aim to increase our presence in this market."
Boeing 787 Dreamliner
The 787 is a family of three super-efficient airplanes that will provide passengers with a better flying experience. The 787-8 Dreamliner will carry 223 passengers in three classes of seating with a range of up to 8,500 nautical miles (15,700 kilometers). The 787-3 will carry 296 passengers in two-class seating on ranges up to 3,500 nautical miles (6,500 kilometers). The 787-9, a longer version of the 787-8, will carry 259 passengers in three classes with a range of 8,300 nautical miles (15,400 kilometers).
Since its foundation in 1976, Korean Air Aerospace Division has played a vital role in establishing the foundation of the Korean aerospace industry. Korean Air is currently supplying major aircraft manufacturers worldwide with wings, fuselage and empennage components.
