Boeing Identifies Thai Airways International for 777 Order

Boeing [NYSE: BA] today confirmed that Thai Airways International (THAI) placed a previously unidentified order for six 777-200ER airplanes, valued at approximately US$1.1 billion at list prices.

The order, booked during last year's fourth quarter, was listed in the unidentified category on Boeing's orders and deliveries website.

"THAI was a launch customer for the Boeing 777 program and has been operating that airplane, the best in its class, from the very beginning," said THAI President Kanok Abhiradee. "We're purchasing 777-200ERs for our long-haul routes primarily because of the 777's exceptional reliability, economics, and efficiency."

Deliveries will begin in August 2006 and continue into October 2007. The airplanes will feature a tri-class configuration and be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent-892B engines. The 777-200ERs will join THAI's current fleet of 83 airplanes, most of which are Boeing 737s, 747s, and 777s.

"This order reflects our great 35-year partnership with Thai Airways International," said Boeing Vice President, Sales Larry Dickenson.

The Boeing 777, the world's most efficient twin-engine airplane, has a best-in-class reliability rate that exceeds 99 percent. The superior economics and capabilities of the 777 family allow airlines great flexibility in flight planning. To date, 38 customers have placed 671 orders for the 777. Worldwide, 500 have been delivered.
