Mission Success for Boeing-Built Micro-satellite - A View from Above

The first micro-satellite in the XSS series completed its 12-hour mission successfully on January 30, proving that an autonomous space system can operate near other orbiting space objects. The XSS-10 microsatellite was designed, developed and built by Boeing. The micro-satellite, covered in gold-colored thermal blankets, is the 31-kilogram (68-pound) microsatellite attached to the Delta II rocket that lifted it to low-earth orbit 800 kilometers above the equator. The XSS-10 microsatellite measures 17 inches in diameter and 32 inches in length.
