The Next-Generation 737-600 has received type certification from Europe's Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA), Boeing Commercial Airplane Group announced today. Delivery of the first 737-600 to launch customer Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) is scheduled for later this month.

At 102 feet 6 inches, and with seating for 110 to 132 passengers, the 737-600 received type certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in August.

"Gaining full certification for this jetliner readies the newest member of our Next-Generation 737 family for delivery," said Jack Gucker, vice president - 737/757 Derivatives. "We're confident that SAS will be pleased with the quality, reliability and reduced operating and maintenance costs the 737-600 provides."

Noted for their value-added passenger comforts and reduced fuel consumption, Next-Generation 737 models are rapidly gaining popularity for their reduced noise and emissions, and for advanced systems - including the Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) and the latest collision- avoidance system.

Next-Generation 737 models are powered by the CFM56-7 engines, which are available with an environmentally-friendly dual annular combustor (DAC). Engine-maker CFM International developed the DAC engine to address growing airline concerns over reductions in allowable emissions and taxes on emissions in some countries.
