Boeing Named NASA's Large Business Prime Contractor of the Year

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla., Dec. 3, 2010 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] has been named the Large Business Prime Contractor of the Year by NASA for outstanding contributions to the agency’s small-business program on the Checkout, Assembly and Payload Processing Services (CAPPS) contract at Kennedy Space Center.

"Boeing has fully integrated high-technology small businesses into all of our programs," said Brewster Shaw, vice president and general manager of Boeing Space Exploration. "We value the innovative approaches, diversity of thought and effective cost structure small businesses contribute to our collaborative efforts."

As the prime contractor for NASA’s CAPPS contract, Boeing provides payload processing services for the International Space Station, space shuttle and expendable launch vehicles. Boeing employees and teammates have successfully processed every major payload that has flown on the shuttle. CAPPS also works with NASA’s international partners to ensure the continued construction and maintenance of the station.

Johnson Space Center and Kennedy Space Center recognized Boeing’s small-business programs in Houston and Florida earlier this year. Today’s recognition from NASA headquarters completes the overall NASA honors.

NASA presents its Office of Small Business Programs' Small Business Industry Awards annually to contractors who make significant contributions to the agency's small-business program. The awards recognize successful and innovative practices that promote participation in NASA's small-business initiatives.
