Boeing Executive Joins RASEI to Partner on Renewable Energy Research Projects

ST. LOUIS, Aug. 17, 2010 – The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] today announced that Tim Noonan, vice president of Boeing Energy, has joined the Leadership Council of the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI).

Noonan joins RASEI as chair of the Smart Grid working group, leading the institute’s efforts to develop solutions for creating a national Smart Grid that modernizes energy distribution and use.

“Boeing’s participation with RASEI to address Smart Grid deficiencies is a testament to the business community’s commitment to developing effective energy solutions,” said RASEI Director Michael Knotek. “We are pleased to have Tim join the RASEI team, and we look forward to his contributions to our efforts.”

The RASEI Leadership Council is an interdisciplinary joint research effort between the University of Colorado (UC) at Boulder and the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colo. It comprises a select group of corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, scientists, policy makers and academics that serve as high-level advisers and provide strategic direction to the Institute. The council was created to merge the private sector’s market-based experience and perspective with the innovative research capabilities of the scientists and faculty at UC-Boulder and NREL.

“As federal agencies and electricity providers across the country seek solutions to meet this nation’s need for access to abundant energy, Boeing is pleased to join a growing contingent of business leaders looking for opportunities to contribute to the development of secure, affordable and clean energy alternatives,” said Noonan.

RASEI has formed one of the world’s leading university and federal laboratory partnerships in the development and commercialization of renewable energy technologies. RASEI seeks solutions for economically producing energy from low carbon sources and using it more efficiently to meet the global energy challenge.
