Modification Work Begins on First Boeing 747-400 Special Freighter

A modification crew removes a large section of the aft left fuselage from the first 747-400 that's being converted into a cargo freighter through Boeing's [NYSE: BA] 747-400 Special Freighter program. Crews will install a main-deck cargo door in the opening as well as upgrading the floor beams and modifying many aircraft systems. Taikoo (Xiamen) Aircraft Engineering (TAECO), located in Xiamen, China, is performing the prototype conversion for Boeing and 747-400 Special Freighter launch customer Cathay Pacific Airways. Cathay Pacific will receive its first converted freighter by the end of this year.
