Boeing Delta II with AF GPS satellite to launch May 10

A Boeing [NYSE: BA] Delta II rocket is scheduled to launch a U.S. Air Force Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite into a nearly 11,000-mile circular orbit on May 10.

The Delta II will lift off Space Launch Complex 17A at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., during a 29-minute launch window that opens at 9:48 p.m. EDT.

The satellite carried aboard the Delta II will replace one of the original GPS navigational satellites placed into orbit 11 years ago.

The Air Force mission had been originally scheduled for April 21, but scrubbed twice. The issues involving range facilities and a potential issue with the GPS spacecraft have been resolved.
