GATX Orders Five More Boeing Next-Generation 737-800s

GATX Capital Corp, an aircraft-leasing company based in San Francisco, has ordered five Next-Generation 737-800s, bringing the company's total Next-Generation 737 orders to 15, Boeing Commercial Airplane Group confirmed today.

The 737-800 is a new, stretched version of the current 737-400. It incorporates all the enhancements found on other members of the Next-Generation 737 family, including a redesigned passenger cabin, a flight deck featuring the most versatile display system offered on any commercial jetliner and improvements in operating performance. The 737-800 can carry up to 189 passengers.

The Next-Generation 737s build on the strengths that have made the 737 the world's most successful airplane while incorporating improvements designed for the 21st century. Boeing has won more orders for the 737 family alone than the company's biggest competitor has won for its entire product line.

Total orders for the entire 737 family of airplanes exceed 4,000, which include more than 1,000 orders for the Next-Generation 737 family alone. More than 800 737s are in the air at any time, with one taking off every six seconds.
